Been thinking of going on a wellness retreat but not convinced it would be worth it? Rest assured, you’re not alone. Perhaps because our culture values hustle and productivity above all else, many of us feel we don’t deserve a break. But the truth is that when we are well-rested and centered, we are actually more productive and effective than when we are in constant work mode. This is just one of the many reasons why we are offering the Equinox Renewal Retreat on September 22-25, 2022. Here are a few more reasons why a wellness retreat is certainly a worthwhile experience:
1. Disconnect & Reflect
In this golden age of technology, most of us find ourselves glued to some sort of screen multiple hours a day. The bustle of modern life that comes with a full plate of tasks and responsibilities has also made it challenging for us to set aside much needed quality time for ourselves. As a result, many of us are feeling stressed and burnt out.
While you won’t be mandated to put away your devices during a retreat, you’ll find it easier to do so yourself. The serene ambiance of a retreat makes it much easier to stay in the moment and truly be present through out the experience.
Free time can be spent hiking, reading a book, taking a restorative nap, journaling, or having an inspiring conversation with other like-minded participants. While our retreat does have a planned schedule, we are also quite flexible so you’ll be able to opt out of any activity for some rest and reflection instead.
2. Deepen Your Practice
A retreat can really elevate your yoga and meditation practice if you want it to. The retreat creates opportunities to practice for longer daily. The workshop style classes will transform your understanding of the practice, and since you don’t have to go back to the grind of your regular life after class, you will also be able to rest and integrate better!
If you are just beginning your yoga and meditation journey, then a retreat can help you to instill a routine, making it easier for you to maintain your practice well after the retreat is over.
A yoga retreat also offers ample opportunities for you to ask questions to your instructor. So you can get the extra support you need should there be a particular pose or practice you’d like to tackle but have been unsure about trying it out yourself.
3. Increase Your Intuition
A real sadhana (spiritual practice) should help you to trust your own inner guidance and become more self-reliant. It is tempting to look outside ourselves for answers, but the truth is that no system or teacher can tell you what is best for you. The only thing they can offer is a safe space for you to experience your own transformation, healing and power. A retreat is a very special opportunity to step out of daily stress and distraction to be guided towards a state of calm and connection with your higher self. Afterwards, you can carry this new perspective with you back into regular life. You do not need anybody else to help you do it. The retreat just gives you space to breathe and experience your own true nature which has been with you all along!
“Yoga practice is ultimately meant to help us to a greater sense of self-trust and self-reliance so that we can weather any challenge we meet. The practice of yoga does not demand that we pledge allegiance or abdicate our own authority to any person or system. As we deepen into the practice, we can see the fruits of the practice in a great many ways – not the least of which is that we consult others less about what is good for us and trust ourselves more.” ~ K. Fisher
4. Eat Healthy and Detoxify
As the old saying goes: You are what you eat! On retreat we enjoy healthy organic vegetarian food and drink ample water. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted because our intention is to hold a safe and nourishing space for mindful practices, healing, and detoxification. Your body, mind and spirit will have the opportunity to deeply rest and be restored. Afterwards, you may find it easier to maintain a healthy new diet or routine at home, too!
5. Meet Wonderful New Friends
It is not always easy to meet people who share your interests. If you are trying to heal and be more mindful, it can be disheartening to be surrounded by folks who are not in alignment with your desire to transform. Going on a wellness retreat is a wonderful way to meet new like-hearted people. While it is great to have the opportunity to be immersed in a mindful community, if you prefer, you also have the option to spend time alone. There are many spaces indoors as well as out in nature that are excellent for a deep conversation, but they are perfect for solo contemplation and silent reflection, too.
