My wings are here! They arrived just in time, and in the most magical way.
Yesterday, during another very powerful reiki session, spirit bird medicine came to me in the form of a mourning dove. She was trying relentlessly to come through the kitchen window during the reiki hour. We both heard it and thought someone was actually in the kitchen! Afterwards, I was laying in rest, and I heard her mournful call. I recognized that I had heard it earlier that week and found it so powerful that I had even downloaded a mourning dove sound track off iTunes. I asked Khristee, my wonderful reiki practitioner, do you hear that bird? Is it real? She said yes! In fact, its sitting at the window now! So I walked over to her. Amazing she didn’t fly away. We looked into each others eyes for a long while. The bird who i’d heard earlier this week and had sought out by downloading her voice was here in real life! When Khristee came into the kitchen she flew away. I guess she was really there for me!
Then when I came home, a package I had been waiting for over 3 weeks finally arrived. It was a hand made shawl from australia… WINGS! A birthday gift from my mother (and to my surprise a second shawl aka a second set of wings from my father). I was amazed.
The dove symbolizes peace, holy love, divine assistance, hope, and support. It is also a sign of imminent change, death, release of trauma, or relocation. Reminder that you are one with spirit and are guided and held even during the difficult times.
At this time in my life, as I turn 29 years old, so much within me is churning and changing. I feel life is about to take flight in many new ways this summer. Personal, spiritual, and career shifts are coming.
I am so grateful for this beautiful mourning dove, who came to remind me that I am supported, to trust my deep intuition, to choose love over fear, and to spread my wings!
This is grace.
In shamanic traditions when the natural world sends us such strong messages in the form of animals it is called medicine.
Some things to pay attention to when a Mourning Dove appears:
- People often find that unexpected and unseen support and assistance comes when they need it most.
- Travel is often indicated when Dove appears prominantly, and this may include relocation to a new home.
- A death, either physical (of someone one knows or is close to) or symbolic (within the individual) may occur and while it may bring grief, there is also quite often a sense of relief and gratitude that suffering has finally ended and peace will soon be at hand.
- The ways and means of leaving a destructive or difficult situation is at hand. Life is about to become much more peaceful and satisfying on all levels.
