The idea that January 1st is the new year has never made much sense to me energetically. January is such a dreary month and I prefer celebrating winter solstice as a new beginning. But 2014 is different because the first new moon of the year falls on new year’s day! Since I try to honor the natural cycles of season, moon, earth, intuition, spirit and goddess, I recognize that there is something incredibly auspicious about this line up.
